History
To the travelers through Texas in 1850, the
Stagecoach Inn in Chappell Hill was known as a comfortable and luxurious
overnight stop on the road to Austin. Two early stage coach lines
used the Inn as a stop on the Houston to Austin and Houston to Waco
roads. The Inn along with the Weems House and Coach House are
located on the original three acre lot drawn up by the towns founder and
builder of the Inn.
Now the Inn is the residence of
Eileen and Steve Evans. Eileen is a long time dealer in fine
antiques, and Steve is a retired Air Force pilot who now is part of the
antique business as well.
The quiet grounds of the Inn are
well shaded with large oak, sycamore, and pecan trees, which surround the
Coach House and the Weems House. There are sitting terraces and
porches for guests use. Central to the theme of the Inn is quiet
solitude. Though centrally located in Washington county, it is a
nice place to stop and enjoy life. A garden house, well-house,
kitchen garden and fences combine to give the three acre complex a
distinction of its own.
